Adoption Profile
Background
He was living in a shelter in Rankin Inlet before transferring to our rescue and has been in foster care for a month now and is gaining weight, healing and building confidence.
Description
Storm is a gentle, people-oriented dog who loves being close to his humans. He is calm and affectionate in the house and enjoys relaxing with his family. He's smart, eager to learn, and has already picked up household routines and basic commands quickly. While he's still gaining confidence in new situations, Storm has so much potential with patient guidance and consistency.
๐พ Dog Friendly
Storm has lived successfully around other dogs in a home environment. On leash, however, he can become reactive as unfamiliar dogs get closer. He often appears excited from a distance but becomes uncertain during close encounters and may bark or lunge. At this time, he would do best avoiding on-leash greetings and off-leash dog interactions while continuing positive training. - He has been working with an amazing group of people in the Squamish area with socializing with other dogs at a distance.
๐ฑ Cat Friendly / Prey Drive
Unknown.
๐ง Kid Friendly
Unknown. Due to his leash reactivity and ongoing confidence building, a home with older, respectful children would likely be the best fit.
๐ฆฎ Leash Skills
Storm is making steady progress on leash. He prefers quieter walking areas with fewer dogs and distractions. He has occasionally reacted to joggers after they pass but is improving with consistent handling and confidence-building.
๐ป House Trained
Yes. After a few accidents while settling in, Storm has been doing very well with regular potty breaks every 3โ4 hours. He sleeps through the night but does need an early morning bathroom break around 5:00 a.m.
๐ Food & Training
Storm is intelligent, eager to learn, and responds well to positive reinforcement. He would benefit from continued confidence-building, leash training, and slow, positive introductions to a properly fitted muzzle if one is used as a training and safety tool.
๐ Vehicle Behaviour
Does well in the car
๐พ Other Behaviours to Note
Storm has some separation anxiety, particularly when separated from his primary person. He struggles with being crated, likely due to previous negative experiences and travel, so he does best with a safe, comfortable space rather than forced crate use. He recently had his first bath and handled it wonderfully. Storm thrives in a calm, predictable environment and will make an incredibly rewarding companion for someone willing to help him continue building confidence at his own pace. โค๏ธ
