Our Story
The Snow Dog Rescue Society was founded in Port Moody, BC, by Victoria Burdett-Coutts, an animal lover and marine professional who often travels to Nunavut through her company, Dynamic Ocean Consulting Ltd.
During her northern work trips, Victoria encountered countless dogs in need — resilient, loyal, and full of spirit, yet facing harsh conditions and limited resources. Moved to help, she began personally bringing dogs and puppies south to find loving homes.
Over eight years, this effort grew into a network of fosters, adopters, and supporters. In recent years, Nunavut dog owners began reaching out directly, trusting Snow Dog Rescue Society to help with voluntary surrenders, medical care, and transport.
To meet the growing need, the organization was formally registered as a nonprofit — allowing for fundraising, fostering, and expanded medical support for dogs both in BC and Nunavut.
What We Do
Every month, Snow Dog Rescue Society:
Transports surrendered dogs from Nunavut to British Columbia for fostering and adoption.
Provides veterinary care, vaccinations, and spay/neuter services for dogs in transition.
Supplies food, medication, and gear to dogs remaining in Nunavut communities.
Builds partnerships with local fosters, adopters, and veterinarians across BC.
Raises awareness and funds through social media, community events, and direct outreach.
We believe rescue is not just about relocation — it’s about relationship, respect, and renewal.
