About Fostering With Us

Fostering with Snow Dog Society is a no-cost commitment that saves lives. When you open your home to a foster dog, you provide them with a safe place to decompress, heal, learn, and experience what life in a loving home can look like.

You provide shelter, patience, love, structure, and some basic training. We provide the supplies, veterinary care, support, and resources you need to help your foster succeed.

A Little About Rescue Dogs

Every rescue dog comes with their own history, personality, and needs. Many of our dogs come from northern communities and may have had very little experience living inside a home. Some may arrive nervous, shy, overwhelmed, or unsure of new people, sounds, routines, and environments.

The first few days or weeks may involve an adjustment period. A dog who seems quiet or withdrawn at first may become much more confident once they feel safe. Others may need help learning things that seem simple to us, such as house training, walking on a leash, settling in a home, or understanding boundaries.

Rescue dogs are not "broken." They simply need time, patience, consistency, and understanding.

As a foster, you are an important part of helping your dog transition from where they came from to where they are going. Your observations and updates also help us understand their personality, behaviour, needs, and what type of forever home will be the best fit.

What We Provide

Fostering with Snow Dog Society should not cost you money.

We cover:

• Food and necessary supplies

• Beds, crates, blankets, toys, enrichment, leashes, collars, and other approved equipment

• Approved veterinary care

• Medications and medical treatment related to your foster

• Support from our foster team and management

• Training and behaviour support when needed

• Adoption support and promotion

All of our fosters and team members stay connected through WhatsApp, allowing you to easily ask questions, share updates, and get support throughout your foster's stay.

We also have trainers on our team who can assist with training and behaviour questions when needed. You are never expected to figure everything out on your own.

Veterinary Care

If your foster requires veterinary care, appointments must be requested through the Vet Appointment Request Form on our website.

Requests are sent to our Vet Manager, who will coordinate appointments with our rescue veterinary partners.

Please do not book veterinary appointments independently unless specifically authorized by Snow Dog Society management.

Foster Supplies & Reimbursements

We provide the supplies needed for your foster whenever possible.

If something additional is needed, all purchases must be pre-approved by Snow Dog Society before purchasing.

Approved purchases must:

• Be pre-approved before purchase

• Be purchased specifically for the foster dog

• Be kept on a separate receipt from personal purchases

• Be submitted through our website reimbursement form

Approved expenses will be reimbursed according to our reimbursement process.

Please do not purchase supplies expecting reimbursement without receiving approval first.
