Adoption Profile

Background

Odin is a 1.5-year-old, approximately 60 lb Husky mix. We don't know much about his early history, but he is a very sweet and affectionate boy who forms strong bonds with his people. He is currently being fostered in Parksville.

Description

Odin is a loving, intelligent boy with a big personality. He enjoys being with his person and is happiest when he feels comfortable and settled. He knows several commands and is eager to learn. Odin can become very excited or overwhelmed in new or stimulating situations, so he is looking for someone who can continue working with him on his training, confidence, and ability to stay calm.

๐Ÿพ Dog Friendly

Odin can be friendly with other dogs, but his response depends on the situation. He can become very excited or overwhelmed when meeting unfamiliar dogs and may need time and guidance to settle. Continued work on calm greetings and socialization will be important.

๐Ÿฑ Cat Friendly / Prey Drive

Odin has a strong prey drive and will chase rabbits, mice, rats, moles, deer, and other small animals. His compatibility with cats is unknown, so a home without cats or other small animals would be best.

๐Ÿ‘ง Kid Friendly

Odin previously lived with an 11-year-old girl and was very close with her. His current foster home does not have children, so his interactions with children have not been further assessed.

๐Ÿฆฎ Leash Skills

Odin is still working on his leash skills and can pull quite strongly, especially when he sees something exciting. When he is tired and settled, he can walk nicely beside his person. He becomes particularly excited around other dogs and animals. Continued leash training and impulse-control work will be important.

๐Ÿšป House Trained

Yes! Odin is house trained and has had no accidents in his foster home. He will ask to go outside when he needs to. He sleeps happily in his crate or on the floor beside his person's bed.

๐Ÿ– Food & Training

Odin is not particularly picky about food and enjoys fish kibble topped with soft food. He always seems to be ready for his next meal! He knows sit, down, wait, leave it, come on, and let's go. He does need continued work around food and bones, as he can become possessive of high-value items, particularly with unfamiliar people or changes in routine.

๐Ÿš— Vehicle Behaviour

Odin is initially very excited in the vehicle and can bark quite a bit. After approximately 20 minutes, he generally settles. When the vehicle stops, however, his excitement can return and he may become vocal again. He will benefit from continued work on settling calmly in the car.

๐Ÿพ Other Behaviours to Note

Odin is a sweet boy who can become very excited, nervous, or overwhelmed, and when his emotions get too big, he can have difficulty calming himself and making good choices. He can also become very attached to his person and has some separation anxiety. Continued training, structure, consistency, and positive socialization will be important for his success.

Odin is looking for an experienced and patient home that is willing to make training part of his everyday routine. He has so much potential and, when he is calm and comfortable, his sweet and affectionate personality really shines. โค๏ธ

Odin has also had an unusual reaction to trazodone, which caused significant hyperactivity rather than calming him. His medical history is otherwise unknown.
