Adoption Profile

Background

Heavily pregnant and searching for somewhere safe, Nimkii wandered into the yard of a kind resident in a small Saskatchewan town. Despite their best efforts to help her, it became clear her owner—who was located shortly after—was no longer able to care for her due to health concerns. They reached out for support, and that’s when we stepped in.

Nimkii gave birth to 10 puppies, but heartbreakingly, 3 little ones didn’t survive before we could bring her into our care. Thanks to an incredible volunteer willing to take on an 8-hour round trip, Mama and her surviving 7 pups were safely transported to Edmonton and welcomed into a loving foster home.

When they arrived, Nimkii and her babies were covered in ticks and bugs, exhausted, and deeply stressed. Her fosters immediately got to work—gently removing parasites, keeping the family warm and comfortable, and getting them to the vet as soon as possible.

What happened next was nothing short of beautiful. The scared, shut-down mama who could barely bring herself to move slowly began to trust. The stress panting eased. The trembling stopped. Within days, Nimkii was offering full-body wiggles, chatting with her fosters, and rediscovering what it feels like to simply be a dog.

Today, Nimkii is healthy, safe, and thriving. With her puppies now growing up, it’s finally Nimkii’s turn to find the loving forever home she deserves.

Description

Nimkii is a sweet, gentle soul who loves affection and being close to her people. She has a soft, quiet way of communicating and enjoys regular cuddle sessions and pets. Calm and easygoing, she is happiest exploring at a relaxed pace, especially if there’s water nearby to splash in or new smells to investigate.

While she can be a little unsure about leashes and walks, she enjoys getting out and about and stays close to her people. Nimkii is not a runner and prefers to stick with her family. She is mellow, peaceful, and settles well in the home. Her foster describes her as incredibly soft, affectionate, and responsive to attention.

🚗 Vehicle Behaviour
Nimkii rides well in the car but can be a little nervous and sometimes hesitant to get in. This may be related to the amount of travel and change she has experienced recently.
