Adoption Profile
Background
She came into care after living on a reservation with another dog. Since arriving in foster care, she has been learning that people can be kind, predictable, and safe. She is making progress every day and is slowly building confidence in her new world.
Description
This sweet girl has so much love to give. She can be timid and cautious with new people, often preferring women at first, but she does warm up to men with patience and time.
Once she feels comfortable, she loves being close to her people and enjoys pets and even being brushed. She loves treats and food and is learning that she never has to worry about where her next meal is coming from.
She absolutely loves having a canine companion to play with. She enjoys a good play session and then happily heads off to her own space for some quiet time.
She is still learning how to play with humans. She will chase toys but doesn't quite understand the concept of bringing them back yet! She can also be startled if something is thrown too close to her, so gentle, low-pressure play is best.
She will thrive with a patient family who understands that confidence and trust take time. With gentle guidance, consistency, and a safe routine, she is continuing to blossom.
๐พ Dog Friendly
Yes โ she loves other dogs!
It took her a couple of days to become comfortable with her foster's dog, but with slow introductions they quickly became best friends. She would do especially well with a confident, calm dog who can help show her the ropes.
She is best suited to homes without small animals and may do well with larger dogs who have a calm energy and are introduced appropriately.
๐ฑ Cat Friendly / Prey Drive
Unknown.
Because she is not currently recommended for homes with small animals, a cat or small-animal-free home would be the best fit.
๐ง Kid Friendly
Yes!
She immediately took to her foster's children, ages 4 and 6, and enjoys being around them. As with any dog, respectful interactions and supervision are recommended.
๐ฆฎ Leash Skills
She is still learning.
Leaving the house can be a little scary for her right now, so she hasn't had much opportunity to practice walking. She can be gently guided on leash but will need a patient adopter who is willing to build her confidence gradually.
๐ป House Trained
Yes!
She had one accident on her first morning in foster care and hasn't had another since. It appears she was simply overwhelmed and startled by her new surroundings.
๐ Food & Training
She is not picky and happily eats the food provided to her.
She is a little food insecure and is learning that meals will always come. Treats are a great motivator for her as she continues to build confidence and learn.
She already knows how to sit and is working on keeping all four paws on the floor instead of jumping up for attention.
She can howl or whine when she is unsure where her people are, but reassurance that you're still nearby helps her settle.
๐ Vehicle Behaviour
She travels very well in the car. She was quiet and relaxed during her foster's travels with her.
๐พ Other Behaviours to Note
She is not currently kennel trained, but does well with respecting boundaries set for her.
She does well at night on her own. She may howl briefly when her people leave, but she is learning that they always come back.
She has a bedtime routine where she gets a treat before everyone heads upstairs. If that routine is skipped, she may protest with some enthusiastic howling! With her treat and a little reassurance, she settles much more quickly.
She is not a big barker, although she may bark outside from time to time.
This sweet girl is still discovering the world and learning to trust the people around her. She doesn't need perfection โ she needs someone patient, gentle, and willing to let her confidence grow at her own pace. In return, she has an incredible amount of love to give. โค๏ธ
