Background

Zelda is an approximately 10-month-old Pit Bull who is ready to find her forever home! Affectionately known as “Zoomie Zelda,” she is a goofy, affectionate, and loyal young girl with lots of personality. She is spayed and currently weighs around 50 lbs.

Zelda has been working through allergies with the help of her foster family and is looking for a home committed to continuing her care, training, and development. She has so much love to give and will thrive with a family who appreciates her playful personality, enthusiastic greetings, and all the little quirks that make her Zelda!

Description

Zelda is a playful, silly girl who absolutely adores her people. Wherever her humans are, that’s where she wants to be! She loves cuddling, snuggling under cozy blankets, building blanket nests, and being close to her favourite people.

When she isn't busy soaking up affection, Zelda enjoys outdoor adventures, sniffing and exploring, chasing squirrels, playing with chew toys, and shredding cardboard boxes. She loves balls, too, although she often prefers to entertain herself with them rather than play fetch with her humans. One of her favourite activities is finding a sunny patch in the yard and stretching out for a good sunbathing session!

Zelda is a happy, excitable girl who sometimes expresses her enthusiasm through jumping, a little excited dance, and the classic Pit Bull “nibble.” Someone familiar with the breed will likely recognize these endearing, sometimes hilarious behaviours! She is still young and will benefit from continued guidance, structure, and positive reinforcement as she grows.

🐾 Dog Friendly

Zelda does well with puppies, particularly younger ones who can match her playful energy. She currently plays nicely with the younger puppies in her foster home.

She can be quite dominant in her interactions, so careful introductions are important, especially with other confident or dominant dogs and particularly other females. Her future family should be comfortable reading canine body language, supervising interactions, and helping her build positive relationships with appropriate canine companions.

🐱 Cat Friendly / Prey Drive

Zelda has lived with cats and has never hurt one, but she can fixate on them and will chase when they move. Because of this, she may not be suited to a home with cats, especially those who are active or uncomfortable around dogs.

A home with very dog-savvy cats might be possible with slow, careful introductions and appropriate management, but this would need to be assessed thoughtfully. A cat-free home may be the best fit for setting Zelda up for success.

She also has a strong interest in chasing squirrels and other small animals, so her prey drive should be considered when outdoors.

👧 Kid Friendly

Zelda has done well with children aged 9 and older. She is an enthusiastic, energetic girl who can jump up when excited, so introductions to younger children must be handled carefully.

She would do best with dog-savvy children who understand canine body language, respect her boundaries, and can participate in calm, supervised interactions. Her future family should be prepared to help her practise polite greetings and manage her excitement around new people.

🦮 Leash Skills

Zelda is still working on her leash manners and can pull quite strongly, so her future handler will need to be physically capable of managing her strength. She gets very excited when she sees other dogs on walks, and her foster family has been working with her on staying calm and learning to disengage.

Her recall is fairly good, but she sometimes chooses not to listen when she's having too much fun in the yard or has discovered a particularly inviting sunny spot. Once she's settled in for a sunbathing session, she may decide that coming inside can wait!

Continued positive reinforcement, consistency, and practice will help Zelda build reliable recall and better leash manners. A secure yard where she can safely enjoy her famous zoomies would be a bonus.

Zelda can also bark at unfamiliar people or neighbours around her home and is still learning to greet new people appropriately. Calm introductions, thoughtful management, and ongoing confidence-building will be important.

🚻 House Trained

Zelda is housetrained and has excellent manners indoors. She does well home alone for a few hours, although she may cry a little initially before settling.

She isn't the biggest fan of crates, partly because the sounds they make can worry her, but she will go into one. With patience and positive associations, she can continue building confidence around crate time.

When it's time to relax, Zelda is happy sleeping in her own bed or snuggling up with her humans under a cozy blanket. Being close to her people is definitely her preference!

🍖 Food & Training

Zelda is a very smart, food-motivated girl who already knows several commands, including sit, stay, down, come, and place. She is eager to learn and will thrive with continued positive reinforcement training, consistency, and enrichment.

Mealtimes are particularly entertaining with Zelda. She patiently waits for her release word before eating and sometimes develops the most adorable little drool bubbles while anticipating her food!

Zelda has allergies managed with a veterinary-prescribed hydrolyzed protein diet and allergy injections every four weeks. She is sensitive to several foods, including chicken and seafood, and may also have environmental allergies. Her coat has been growing back beautifully with her current care routine.

Her future family must be prepared to maintain her specialized diet, regular injections, and ongoing veterinary care to keep her comfortable and healthy.

Zelda is a great passenger in the vehicle and enjoys travelling with her people.

🐾 Other Behaviours to Note

Zelda is an energetic, affectionate young dog with a big personality and a strong bond with her people. She can be protective of her home and family, sometimes barking at unfamiliar people or neighbours. When unsure how to interact with someone new, she may nip, so careful introductions, appropriate management, and continued positive training are important.

Like many enthusiastic young dogs, Zelda is still learning how to channel her excitement. She may jump up when greeting people and has a tendency to get carried away when she's happy. Her future family should be prepared to continue working on polite greetings and helping her feel comfortable around new people.

Zelda would benefit from a patient, confident family who understands her needs and is committed to providing physical exercise, mental enrichment, consistent guidance, and plenty of affection. Experience with Pit Bulls or similar strong, energetic breeds would be a real asset.

Above all, Zelda wants to be part of the action, whether that means joining you on an adventure, entertaining herself with a ball, enjoying a sunny afternoon in the yard, or curling up beside you for a cuddle.
