💙 Background

We don’t know too much about Timber’s early background. He came into rescue after being quilled by a porcupine, resulting in wounds and injuries that required veterinary treatment.

Despite how uncomfortable he must have been, Timber remained gentle, sweet, and happy. Since settling into his foster home and feeling better, he has really started to show his personality — including his playful, goofy, and wonderfully vocal side!

🥰 Personality

Timber is a big, affectionate boy who absolutely loves his people! He enjoys being close to his family, getting pets and cuddles, and would happily climb into your lap despite being an 80-pound Malamute mix!

He seems to walk through life with a constant little bounce in his step — along with his ears and his attitude! Timber is incredibly happy, affectionate, and loves being outside and spending time with his family.

Once he feels comfortable and starts feeling good, his playful side really comes out, especially when he knows a walk or adventure is coming!

When Timber is unsure or nervous, he looks to his people for reassurance. He bonds closely with his humans and learns household rules and manners quickly.

🐕 Dog Friendly

Yes!

Timber has gotten along wonderfully with his 100-pound female foster “sister.” Slow introductions to smaller dogs have also gone well.

That said, Timber does have prey drive and can sometimes become overly focused on chasing smaller dogs, so interactions with smaller dogs should be managed thoughtfully.

🐱 Cat Friendly

No.

Timber has not had successful introductions with his foster cat and can become very focused on chasing smaller animals.

Because of this, Timber would do best in a cat-free home.

👧🧒 Kids

Timber’s compatibility with children is currently unknown.

🦮 Leash Skills

Timber is a great walking companion when using a front-clip harness!

He naturally wants to pull when walking on a collar or back-clip harness, but does very well with the proper equipment.

He loves getting outside for walks and adventures with his people!

🏡 House Training

Yes!

Timber is fully house trained. He will vocalize when he needs to go outside and particularly enjoys doing his business while out on walks.

🎓 Training

Timber is a smart boy who learns household rules and manners quickly!

He knows:

• 🪑 Sit

• 🍽️ Wait for his “okay” before eating

• 🐾 Shake a paw (ish!)

• 🏡 Household manners

• 🎯 Pretty good recall when off leash in appropriate, secure areas

He is always happy to receive food and treats! He doesn't seem particularly interested in chewing on tougher treats for very long, though.

🚗 Travel

Timber has quite the travel résumé!

He travels well in the car and has experience travelling by plane and ferry. He settles into the ride fairly quickly and handles travel well once he gets comfortable.

Timber has recovered from his run in with the porcupine in Yellowknife, though some quills may still be working their way out over time. He is up to date on vaccines, neutered,

🏡 Timber's Perfect Home

Timber is looking for a loving home where he can truly be part of the family.

His ideal family will enjoy spending time outdoors and appreciate a big, affectionate Malamute mix who loves walks, adventures, cuddles, and being close to his people.

🐱 May not be suited to a home with cats or other small animals though his foster has been working on his cat introductions he does have some prey drive.

Experience with large northern-breed dogs would be an asset, but most importantly, Timber needs a family who will continue to give him patience, consistency, love, and plenty of opportunities to be the happy boy he is becoming.

Timber is such a happy, affectionate, goofy boy with so much love to give. From surviving a painful porcupine encounter to discovering how wonderful life can be, he is ready for the next chapter — with a family of his very own.
