Spay & Neuter Addendum – Terms & Conditions
This Spay & Neuter Addendum forms part of the Adoption Agreement between Snow Dog Society Rescue and the Adopter. By signing this addendum, the Adopter agrees to all terms and conditions below.
1. Requirement to Spay or Neuter
The Adopter agrees that the adopted dog will be spayed or neutered in accordance with the timeline and requirements outlined by Snow Dog Society.
For dogs where Snow Dog Society has approved delaying sterilization until the dog is fully grown, the Adopter understands that this is a conditional exception and does not remove the obligation to eventually spay or neuter the dog.
2. Delayed Spay/Neuter
Where approval has been provided to delay sterilization, the Adopter agrees to take full responsibility for preventing accidental breeding during the entire period the dog remains intact.
The Adopter agrees that:
An intact male dog over seven (7) months of age will not be allowed to freely roam or have unsupervised access to female dogs.
A female dog in heat will not be allowed to freely roam or have unsupervised access to intact male dogs.
The dog will remain securely contained, leashed, or otherwise appropriately managed whenever necessary to prevent accidental breeding.
The Adopter will take all reasonable precautions to prevent an accidental litter.
The dog will not be intentionally bred under any circumstances.
3. Accidental Pregnancy or Litter
If a female dog becomes pregnant while in the Adopter’s care, the Adopter must immediately notify Snow Dog Society.
As outlined in the Adoption Agreement, if the dog becomes pregnant, the mother and puppies must be surrendered back to Snow Dog Society for the duration of the pregnancy and whelping process.
Snow Dog Society will coordinate the appropriate care for the mother and puppies, including whelping, veterinary care, and placement of the puppies. Following recovery and completion of the required spay, the mother will be returned to the Adopter, provided all adoption requirements remain in good standing.
The Adopter agrees not to sell, give away, rehome, or otherwise transfer any puppies resulting from an accidental or intentional pregnancy.
4. Proof of Sterilization
The Adopter agrees to provide Snow Dog Society with written proof of spay or neuter once the procedure has been completed.
Acceptable proof may include a veterinary invoice, surgical record, or other documentation from a licensed veterinarian clearly confirming that the dog has been spayed or neutered.
Proof must be provided to Snow Dog Society within the timeframe specified by the Rescue.
5. Veterinary Care
The Adopter is responsible for arranging the spay or neuter with a licensed veterinarian and for all costs associated with the procedure unless Snow Dog Society has agreed in writing to cover or contribute toward the cost.
The Adopter agrees to follow all veterinary recommendations regarding the dog’s health, age, weight, recovery, and appropriate timing for the procedure.
If a veterinarian determines that sterilization must be postponed for medical reasons, the Adopter must notify Snow Dog Society and provide veterinary documentation supporting the postponement.
6. No Intentional Breeding
The adopted dog may not be bred for any reason, whether intentionally or accidentally.
The Adopter agrees not to use the dog for breeding, stud services, or the production of puppies.
7. Transfer or Rehoming
If the Adopter is unable to keep the dog for any reason, the dog must be returned to Snow Dog Society or the Rescue must provide written approval for an alternative placement, in accordance with the Adoption Agreement.
The Adopter may not transfer the dog to another person, rescue, breeder, or organization without following the requirements of the Adoption Agreement.
Any spay/neuter obligations contained in this addendum remain in effect following any approved transfer unless Snow Dog Society provides written confirmation otherwise.
8. Failure to Comply
The Adopter understands that the spay/neuter requirement is a condition of adoption.
Failure to comply with this addendum, failure to provide required proof, intentional breeding, or failure to take reasonable precautions to prevent an accidental litter may be considered a breach of the Adoption Agreement.
Snow Dog Society reserves the right to pursue any remedies available under the Adoption Agreement and applicable law.
9. Acknowledgement
By signing below, the Adopter confirms that they have read, understood, and agree to all terms and conditions of this Spay & Neuter Addendum.
The Adopter understands that delayed sterilization is a privilege granted based on the individual dog’s circumstances and does not waive the requirement to ultimately spay or neuter the dog.
The Adopter further confirms that they understand their responsibility to prevent accidental breeding while the dog remains intact and agrees to immediately notify Snow Dog Society of any pregnancy, suspected breeding, or other circumstance that may affect compliance with this addendum.
