Adoption Profile

Background

Ginger and her sister Sadie found themselves in need of help after wandering into the yard of a kind community member, who reached out on social media hoping to find these sweet girls a safe place to land. When we saw the post, we knew we had to help.

One of our incredible volunteers made the 2-hour drive to pick the girls up and bring them back to Edmonton, where a dedicated foster welcomed them with open arms. They were given everything they needed — good food, warm baths, veterinary care, and lots of love while they decompressed and learned what it felt like to be safe.

Once ready, Ginger and Sadie made the journey to BC, where they are now settling into foster care, growing in confidence, and showing more of their wonderful personalities every day. What started as two stray pups looking for help has become the beginning of a much brighter future. ❤️🐾

Description

Sadie is a spunky little firecracker. Extremely smart and eager to learn, she can pick up new tricks in just minutes. She likes to keep her humans within sight but is generally more interested in supervising activities than snuggling. Full of personality, Sadie isn't shy about voicing her opinions and has a playful, energetic approach to life.

🐾 Dog Friendly

Sadie can be unsure around other dogs, particularly when first meeting them. Slow, positive introductions and continued socialization will help build her confidence. She may do best with a calm, respectful canine companion.

🐱 Cat Friendly / Prey Drive

Sadie displays herding instincts and will chase cats. A home without cats or other small animals is recommended.

👧 Kid Friendly

Due to her herding tendencies, Sadie may nip at ankles or chase running children during play. She would likely do best with older, dog-savvy children who can help reinforce appropriate behaviours.

🦮 Leash Skills

Still learning her leash manners. Ongoing training and consistency will help her continue developing good walking habits.

🚻 House Trained

Working on her house training and making good progress with a consistent routine.

🍖 Food & Training

Food-motivated and exceptionally trainable. Sadie is incredibly smart and learns new skills very quickly. Positive reinforcement training works very well for her. She can be mouthy when excited and will benefit from continued training to encourage appropriate interactions.

🚗 Vehicle Behaviour

Still gaining experience with car rides. Additional exposure and positive experiences will help build confidence.

🐾 Other Behaviours to Note

  • Very vocal and expressive.

  • Strong herding breed tendencies, including nipping ankles, barking during play, and chasing moving objects.

  • Independent and confident personality.

  • Prefers being near her people rather than directly cuddling.

  • Extremely intelligent and benefits from mental stimulation and training activities.

  • Best suited for an active home that understands herding breed behaviours and can provide structure, exercise, and enrichment
