Adoption Profile

Background

Puaaluk is a 2-year-old Husky mix who came to Snow Dog Rescue Society from Nunavut. She spent much of her life chained in a yard, where she gave birth to puppies before being surrendered by her owners. Despite her difficult start, Puaaluk is learning that people can be kind and that home can be a safe place. Pualuuk means ‘mittens'

Description

Puaaluk is a gentle, thoughtful girl who takes a little time to trust new people, but once she lets her guard down, she becomes an incredibly affectionate and loyal companion. She absolutely loves being petted and enjoys quietly spending time with her people.

She thrives on routine and appreciates having a predictable daily schedule. Compared to many Husky mixes, Puaaluk has a calmer, more laid-back personality. She's happiest joining you for car rides, shorter hikes, relaxing evenings on the couch, or simply following you around the house.

Food is definitely the way to her heart, making her eager to learn and easy to motivate during training.

Because of her past, Puaaluk can still be startled by sudden movements or loud noises and may flinch when caught off guard. As she settles into a secure environment, she continues to gain confidence and relax.

🐾 Dog Friendly

It depends on the dog. Puaaluk does well with calm, respectful dogs but can be uncomfortable around young or overly energetic dogs. If another dog comes on too strong, she'll let them know she needs space with a warning bark rather than escalating the situation.

🐱 Cat Friendly / Prey Drive

Cat compatibility is unknown. Puaaluk has shown a strong prey drive and will react to wildlife or small animals while on leash, so she'll need a handler who can manage her safely during walks.

👧 Kid Friendly

Yes. Puaaluk has done well with children, though, as with any newly adopted dog, respectful interactions and supervision are recommended.

🦮 Leash Skills

Puaaluk walks well on leash. Because of her prey drive, she may pull suddenly if she spots wildlife or other small animals, so maintaining awareness on walks is important.

🚻 House Trained

Yes.

🍖 Food & Training

Puaaluk isn't picky about food and is highly food motivated, which makes training enjoyable. She already knows "sit" and "stay" and enjoys working for treats.

🚗 Vehicle Behaviour

Puaaluk travels very well in the car and is a calm, easy passenger.

🐾 Other Behaviours to Note

Puaaluk is still working through some separation anxiety when left completely alone. She does very well when another dog is in the home—she remains quiet, doesn't destroy anything, and settles nicely. Being left by herself is more challenging, and she'll benefit from a family that can continue building her confidence with gradual alone-time training and consistent routines.
