Adoption Profile

Background

Ayla is an approximately 1.5-year-old Australian Shepherd/Husky mix who was surrendered back into the care of Snowdogs. While little is known about her history before returning to the rescue, she has settled beautifully into foster care and has shown herself to be a loving, active, and affectionate companion who is ready to find her forever family.

Description

Ayla is a beautiful 76-pound girl with an even bigger heart. Her foster lovingly calls her a "gentle giant" because despite her size, she's incredibly sweet, affectionate, and eager to be part of the family.

She is fully house trained, enjoys free roaming the home, and happily sleeps through the night. Ayla loves spending time with her people, whether it's relaxing at home for belly rubs or heading out on her next adventure.

If you're looking for an active companion, Ayla is ready to go! She loves long walks, hiking, exploring new places, and especially swimming. Water is one of her favorite things, and she'll happily jump in whenever she gets the chance. She also enjoys playing fetch and has plenty of energy to keep up with an active lifestyle.

Ayla has a social personality and enjoys meeting and playing with other dogs. She's happiest when she has room to run, whether that's at a dog park or out on the trails. Once she has built a bond with her person, her recall is quite good, making her an excellent companion for outdoor adventures.

๐Ÿพ Dog Friendly

Yes! Ayla is very social and enjoys spending time with other dogs. She loves running and playing at dog parks. She has shown some mild resource guarding around high-value items such as toys and chew bones, so these should be managed appropriately when other dogs are present.

๐Ÿฑ Cat Friendly / Prey Drive

Her compatibility with cats is unknown. Ayla has shown some prey drive and may chase squirrels or rabbits when she sees them outdoors, so introductions to cats should be done carefully.

๐Ÿ‘ง Kid Friendly

Ayla does well with female children and has been friendly with all adults she has met. She has shown fear and anxiety around younger male children, likely stemming from past experiences before entering rescue. Because of this, Ayla would do best in a home without young boys, or with a family that understands her needs and is committed to helping her continue building confidence through positive, patient interactions.

๐Ÿฆฎ Leash Skills

Ayla walks well on leash and is enjoyable to take out for walks. She can pull occasionally, but it is manageable and continues to improve with consistent handling.

๐Ÿšป House Trained

Yes! Ayla is fully house trained, can be trusted to free roam the home, and sleeps quietly through the night.

๐Ÿ– Food & Training

Ayla isn't picky about food and happily eats what's offered, although she tends to have a smaller appetite than you might expect for her size. She already knows how to sit and would thrive with continued positive reinforcement training. She enjoys chew bones and toys, though due to some resource guarding, these are best managed around other dogs.

๐Ÿš— Vehicle Behaviour

Ayla is an excellent passenger and rides calmly and comfortably in the car, making her a wonderful companion for road trips and outdoor adventures.

๐Ÿพ Other Behaviors to Note

Ayla is an affectionate, playful girl who absolutely loves belly rubs. She has lots of energy and would make an incredible hiking, camping, or adventure partner for an active family. One of her favorite activities is swimming, and she never misses an opportunity to splash around in the water. Beneath her energetic personality is a big softie who simply wants to be loved and included in everything her family does. With patience, consistency, and a family that understands her past, Ayla is sure to form an incredibly loyal and loving bond.
