Adoption Profile

Background

Rae came into care from Poundmaker, Saskatchewan along with her mom, Nimkii, and her siblings. Mama Nimkii had wandered away from home and gave birth to 10 puppies in a community member’s yard. When her owner was located, they shared they were unable to care for Nimkii or her puppies. The community member reached out for help, and we stepped in to bring this sweet family into our care.

Sadly, three puppies did not make it before they could be brought to safety. Nimkii and her remaining seven puppies were welcomed into care, where an incredible foster helped get them cleaned up, treated for bugs and ticks, and provided the veterinary care they needed before making their journey to BC to find their forever homes.

Rae is now ready to find a family of her own!

Description

Rae is a spunky, talkative, and incredibly lovable girl. This playful pup has a big personality and absolutely loves having fun! Balls are her favourite, and she also enjoys a good game of “catch me if you can” when she’s outside.

Despite her playful side, Rae is also a wonderful little snuggler who knows how to settle and relax. She happily naps throughout the day and sleeps through household activity without needing constant attention.

Rae loves being outdoors, whether it’s exploring the yard, people watching, playing in the rain, or splashing in the water. She gets very excited meeting new people and dogs and loves spending time with her foster siblings. She is a very social girl who enjoys being part of the action.

Rae is still a bit of a wobbly and clumsy puppy, but her veterinarian believes this is developmental and related to her being a large breed puppy. Several puppies in her litter were slightly behind developmentally due to their size, and she continues to grow and improve every day.

Rae is also a little bit of a comedian and will happily let you know when she disagrees — especially when it comes to crate time, wanting to play, or asking to go outside!

Dog Friendly

Yes — very dog friendly!

Rae loves meeting new dogs and playing with her foster siblings. She is enthusiastic and social, but she can become unsure if another dog approaches too quickly or too intensely. She would do best with continued positive social experiences and dogs who respect puppy boundaries.

Cat Friendly / Prey Drive

Yes — Rae has been good with cats so far.

She is curious and friendly, but has not shown chasing, barking, or concerning behaviour around cats. She has shown no signs of prey drive.

Kid Friendly

Yes!

Rae has happily approached every child she has met with her signature wiggles and excitement. As with any puppy, continued supervision and teaching respectful interactions will be important.

Leash Skills

In progress.

Rae does well wearing a harness and leash but is still learning what leash pressure means. If she decides she doesn’t want to go somewhere, she may simply flop down and wait you out! Continued positive training will help her build confidence and understanding.

House Trained

In progress.

Rae has already started learning to let her foster family know when she needs to go outside, but she is still a young puppy and accidents are expected. Consistency, routine, and positive reinforcement will continue to help her succeed.

Food & Training

Rae is not food picky and has a good appetite.

She is currently working on:

  • Potty training

  • Crate training

  • Recall

  • Basic puppy manners

Like most puppies her age, Rae has a very short attention span and is still learning how the world works. She will benefit from continued positive reinforcement training and lots of patience.

Vehicle Behaviour

Does very well in the vehicle.

Other Behaviours

  • Rae is a happy, social puppy who loves being involved with her people. She enjoys exploring, digging, and (like many puppies) sampling sticks and pinecones when outside.

  • She is still learning that the crate is a safe and comfortable place. She does not currently love sleeping in her crate and may wake easily and cry until reassured or taken out for a potty break.

  • Rae is looking for a family who understands the joys and challenges of raising a large breed puppy and who will continue helping her grow into the amazing dog she is becoming.

  • Rae has some wobbliness and clumsiness, which her veterinarian has assessed as developmental due to her large breed growth.
