Adoption Profile

Background

Mama Nova originally lived as an outdoor dog on a property in the Kehewin area. During a large-scale rescue of dogs by a local organization, she became separated and was not included in the initial intake.

After this, Nova remained in the surrounding area and moved between nearby properties while trying to survive on her own. Over time, she became pregnant and eventually found shelter at a local property, where she safely gave birth to her puppies in a backyard setting.

It is believed she had more puppies than the two who survived. Nova is very bonded to the puppies she raised and has experienced a lot of instability in her early life. Because of this, she can be timid and cautious around people, but she is gradually learning to trust and continues to make steady progress now that she is safe and supported.

Description

This girl will melt your heart. While we don’t know much about Nova’s early life, we do know she was a devoted and caring mom to her puppies.

Nova is still coming out of her shell as she settles into her foster home, and each week she shows more of her gentle personality. She has begun to enjoy affection and attention now that she feels more secure. She can still be a little wary of men, but she adores the women in the household. Nova is also slowly getting to know her foster dog brothers and appears friendly and curious toward them.

Nova is a very sweet, soft-natured pup who is looking for a calm, patient home that can offer her gentle love, reassurance, and of course—yummy snacks.

🐾 Dog Friendly

Yes — best with calmer, respectful dogs.

🐱 Cat Friendly / Prey Drive

Shows interest and has some prey drive. Continued training and supervision recommended.

👧 Kid Friendly

Good with kids.

🦮 Leash Skills

In progress — Nova is slowly getting used to walking on a leash and exploring away from the house at her own pace

🚻House Trained

Improving — she still has occasional accidents indoors, but with a consistent routine she should continue to make steady progress.

🍖 Food & Training

No concerns with food so far.

Training focus areas include:
• House training
• Building trust with people and other dogs
• Socialization to the outside world and new objects (such as cars)
• Leash training
• General house manners

🚗 Vehicle Behaviour

Okay in vehicles — slightly nervous and may have accidents due to anxiety. Continued positive exposure will help build confidence.

🐾 Other Behaviours to Note

Nova is still recovering emotionally from her rescue and from being separated from her puppies. As she continues to decompress and feel safe, more of her personality is emerging. She’s a lovely, gentle soul who is learning that the world isn’t so scary and that people can be kind.
